New Delhi: Customs officers are active at all airports in the country. They keep a sharp eye on smugglers. It is not easy for smugglers to escape their sight. Be it Delhi Airport or Chennai Airport, smugglers are caught every day. But even then these smugglers are trying to fool the customs department officers. This time at Chennai Airport, gold smugglers were trying to fool the officers, but their trick did not succeed and they were all caught.
Actually, the latest case is of Chennai airport. Here in the last two days, not one or two, but a total of 9 passengers tried to smuggle gold, but they did not succeed. Customs department officials at Chennai airport have seized about eight kilograms of gold from nine passengers who came from Gulf and South East Asian countries in the last two days. The value of the seized gold is said to be Rs 5.6 crore. Sources said that this action has been taken on the basis of information received from officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Travellers from where
In the first case, based on information received from DRI Chennai, gold chains weighing about 5.8 kg were recovered from six passengers who arrived from Kuala Lumpur and Dubai on Wednesday. Apart from this, based on information received from DRI Kochi, three passengers who arrived from Dubai and Singapore were arrested for smuggling 2.4 kg of gold hidden in the form of paste in their rectum. All the nine passengers have been arrested.
Why did the officers take you to the toilet
The surprising thing is that when all these accused passengers got off the flight and came to the airport, the officers got suspicious after seeing their behavior. When they were passed through the scanning machine, a beeping sound was heard. They were thoroughly searched, but nothing was found on them. After this, the officers took them to the toilet, where on investigation it was found that there was gold in the form of paste in their rectum. They were trying to smuggle gold by hiding it in the stool. But the officers caught them.
