Guwahati. The flood situation in the northeastern states still remains serious. With this, the death toll in six states has increased to 34. An official gave this information on Sunday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah interacted with the Chief Ministers of Assam (Himanta Biswa Sarma), Arunachal Pradesh (Pema Khandu) and Sikkim (Prem Singh Tamang) and the Governor of Manipur on telephone (Ajay Kumar Bhalla) and inquired about the flood situation.
The Home Minister also assured the flood affected states of the central government. In a post on social media platform X, the Home Minister said, “The Chief Ministers of Assam, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh and the Governor of Manipur spoke in view of the heavy rains in their states. Also assured them of all possible help to deal with any situation. The Modi government stands like a rock in support of the people of the Northeast.”
According to officials from various northeastern states, at least 10 people were killed in Assam in 34 deaths during the rains and floods from 29 May, followed by nine in Arunachal Pradesh, six in Meghalaya and Mizoram, six in Mizoram, two in Tripura and one in Nagaland.
Disaster management officials from the northeastern states said that these deaths have occurred due to drowning, landslides and waterlogging.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report, more than 3.64 lakh people have been affected by floods and rains in 19 districts. The report said that more than 3,524.38 hectares of crop land has been affected in 764 villages of 19 districts.
More than 10,600 flood affected people from 2,800 families in Tripura have taken refuge in 60 of the eight districts – 60 relief camps in Western Tripura, Khowai, Unakoti and North Tripura.
The floods caused by heavy rains in Manipur have wreaked havoc. In the last 48 hours, 3,802 people have been affected and 883 houses have been damaged due to floods and landslides across the state.
More than 1,300 people from 86 villages have been affected and 37 houses have been damaged due to continuous rains and floods in Meghalaya.
