Saharanpur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav over the alliance between Samajwadi Party and Congress for the Lok Sabha elections. Referring to the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election alliance that failed to win the election, PM Modi said the “flop film of two boys” has been released again.
“This is the first election that I am seeing where the opposition is fighting not to win but to stop the BJP below 370 seats and the NDA below 400,” ANI quoted the Prime Minister as saying at a rally in UP’s Saharanpur. Samajwadi Party is in such a situation that they have to change candidates every hour and the worse situation for Congress is that they are not getting candidates even in their strongholds.”
He further said, “These people have re-released the film starring two boys which had flopped last time.” Almost seven years after the alliance between Congress and Samajwadi Party for the 2017 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh in which they did not perform well, in February this year both Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav held a road show in Agra. During the 2017 election campaign, supporters of both parties described their leaders as “UP boys”.
In the 2017 elections, Congress had contested 114 seats, but won only seven seats and secured 6.25 percent votes. Both SP and Congress are part of the ‘India’ alliance and have already announced their seat sharing agreement for the general elections. In UP, SP will contest elections on 63 seats and Congress on 17 seats.
