Legendary footballer Pele will have to stay in the hospital for a few more days due to urinary infection. Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo said on Monday that 81-year-old Pele was admitted to the hospital on February 13 to continue treatment for colon cancer, but doctors later found he was suffering from an infection.
“His condition is stable and he is likely to be discharged from the hospital in the next few days,” the hospital said. During a routine check-up in August last year, Pele was diagnosed with colon cancer after which he underwent chemotherapy. He then had to stay in the hospital for about a month. Brazil won the World Cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970 under Pele. He scored 77 goals in 92 matches which is a record for Brazil.
Pele is considered one of the greatest footballers of all time. The former player from Santos, New York Cosmos and Brazil has faced several health problems in recent years. This also includes hip surgery, which leaves them with frequent pain and trouble walking.
Pele’s real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento. He is the only player in history to win three World Cups (1958, 1962 and 1970). He was also admitted to the hospital in September last year. Pele is a fan of the current legendary footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. In these two, he has considered Messi better many times.
