New Delhi. There is an alliance between AAP and Congress for the mayor elections in Delhi. AAP has made Mahesh Kheri the candidate for mayor and Ravindra Bhardwaj for the post of deputy mayor. On the alliance of AAP and Congress, Anil Bhardwaj, former MLA and head of communication department of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, said that in a meeting of senior leaders, it was decided that the party will support the AAP candidate. This decision was taken so that the people of Delhi do not face any problems and their work continues.
Actually, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress are contesting the Lok Sabha elections together. Out of seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, AAP has fielded candidates on four and Congress candidates are contesting against BJP on three. Initially many big leaders of Delhi Congress were against friendship with AAP. After the decision of the high command, the protesting leaders maintained silence.

MCD on Friday sought permission from the Election Commission for the mayoral election and requested LG VK Saxena to appoint the presiding officer. BJP has nominated Kishan Lal for the post of Mayor and Neeta Bisht for the post of Deputy Mayor. It is noteworthy that elections for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Delhi are to be held on 26th April.
At present, both the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in Delhi are with the Aam Aadmi Party. Aam Aadmi Party has majority in MCD. 250 elected councilors, 7 Lok Sabha MPs, 3 Rajya Sabha members and 14 MLAs vote in the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Apart from this, with the support of 9 Congress councilors, AAP has got good numerical strength.
