new Delhi . The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) on Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over incidents of harassment and violence against doctors. Requesting the PM for the implementation of a central act for the protection of doctors, Forda said, “Looking at the alarming trends we have on several occasions decided to establish an Indian as well as the implementation of a central act for the protection of doctors. No positive response has been received so far from the officials belonging to the Medical Services (IMS) cadre to check such incidents in future.”
Recently, a case of suicide of a female doctor Archana Sharma has come to light in Dausa district of Rajasthan. The doctor was charged with murder after a patient died. The incident has caused shock wave across the state and protests have started in the national capital as well.
The letter said, “The tragic incident of suicide by Archana Sharma in Dausa is one such incident where the doctor was harassed by local politicians and goons to such an extent that he was forced to take the extreme step. Another incident of harassment was reported by Nidhi Uniyal from Government Medical College in Dehradun.”
Forda urged the Prime Minister to take necessary measures to prevent incidents of harassment and violence against doctors.
