New Delhi. Former Foreign Minister of India and senior Congress leader Natwar Singh died late Saturday night at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. He was 95 years old and was ill for some time. He was undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital, but he lost the battle of life. Natwar Singh was born on 16 May 1929 in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. His early education was from Mayo College in Ajmer and Scindia School in Gwalior. After this he graduated from St. Stephen’s College in Delhi. After his excellence in the field of education, Natwar Singh entered the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1953.
Important services rendered in Indian Foreign Service
During his career, Natwar Singh represented India in various countries like China, New York, Poland, England, Pakistan, Jamaica and Zambia. His efficiency and dedication made him one of the important diplomats of India.
After serving for three decades, Natwar Singh turned to politics by resigning from the Indian Foreign Service in 1984. He joined the Congress party and won the Lok Sabha election the same year and was made a Minister of State. The most important position in his political journey came when he served as the Minister of External Affairs in the UPA government led by Dr. Manmohan Singh from May 2004 to December 2005.
The news of Natwar Singh’s death sent a wave of grief in the political and social world. Senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala has expressed deep condolences on his demise. Natwar Singh will be remembered as an intellectual, politician and skilled diplomat who devoted his entire life in the service of the country.
