Four Indian students died due to drowning in Russia (symbolic photo)
Moscow: Four Indian students have died after drowning in a river near St. Petersburg in Russia. The Indian mission here is in touch with Russian authorities to deliver their bodies to their families as soon as possible. All four students were studying medicine at Novgorod State University in Veliky Novgorod city. These included two boys and two girls aged between 18 and 20 years.
This is how the accident happened
According to local media, an Indian student went a little away from the bank in the Volkhov River and started drowning, when four of her friends tried to save her. According to reports, three more students drowned in the river while trying to save her. One boy was rescued safely by the local people.
The student is being treated
The Indian Embassy in Moscow wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “We are trying to deliver the bodies to the relatives as soon as possible. The student whose life has been saved is being given proper treatment.”
Every possible help will be given
The Indian Consulate General in St Petersburg said the students were pursuing medical studies at Veliky Novgorod State University. “Our condolences to the bereaved families,” it wrote on the post. It said it was in touch with local authorities in Veliky Novgorod to ensure speedy delivery of the bodies to their families. “The bereaved families have been contacted and assured of all possible help,” the Consulate General said.
