Beirut. France and Saudi Arabia have announced the creation of a $30 million joint development fund to help the troubled Lebanon. In addition to supporting the main public hospital in the northern city of Tripoli, the money will be spent on humanitarian projects by providing emergency assistance, including food and health services, to the most vulnerable populations in Lebanon, Xinhua news agency reported.
France’s foreign ministry said in a tweet that the money would also be used to provide cash assistance to around 7,500 people and provide milk for families in need.
Lebanon is grappling with a serious crisis that has caused the local currency to collapse, while more than 70 percent of the population has plunged into poverty.
