Spain’s World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz has won his first French Open title after defeating Germany’s Alexander Zverev in a thrilling five-set match. The Spaniard has become the seventh player from his country to win the Roland Garros title as he joins the list of Rafael Nadal and his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. Alcaraz won the game 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.

Alcaraz won the first set easily as he broke Alexander Zverev’s serve thrice. Zverev had no answer to Alcaraz’s game but that changed in the second set. Zverev worked hard and found a way to level the match, winning the second set with a better serve. Alcaraz looked set to win the third set as well and was leading the match 2-1 but Alexander Zverev made a brilliant comeback after trailing 2-5 and won five games in a row and won the third game 7-5. Zverev led the match with a 2-1 lead.
Alcaraz’s powerful comeback
Alcaraz did not give Zverev any chance and despite taking a medical timeout, he composed himself very well to win the fourth set 6-1. The Spaniard then struck at the right time to level the tie at 2-2 in the deciding set. He held his serve and broke Zverev twice to win 6-2. Overall, Alcaraz broke Zverev nine times while the German found six breaks in the game. Zverev struggled on the second serve, winning only 39% of his second serves. He was more successful on his first serves, winning 63% of them. Alcaraz had a success percentage of 65 on his first serve and 54 on his second.
