Sumit Nagal and Rohan Bopanna
India’s top ranked player Sumit Nagal has suddenly got a chance to play in the men’s doubles at the French Open 2024, in which his partner will be Austrian star Sebastian Ofner, ranked 45th in singles in the ATP rankings. The pair of Nagal and Sebastian will face the pair of Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden, in which this match will be played on 30 May. Earlier, the pair of Bopanna and Ebden were to play against Emil Ruusuvuori and Marton Fucsovics in the opening round of men’s doubles, but this pair refused to play at the last moment, after which now Sumit Nagal and Sebastian Ofner will be seen playing this match.
Nagal was defeated in the first round in men’s singles
From India, only Sumit Nagal got a chance to play in the men’s singles in the French Open 2024 and he was eliminated in his opening round after losing to world number 18 player Karen Khachanov in straight three sets 6-2, 6-0 and 7-6. Currently, Nagal is India’s best player in singles, in which he achieved the best ranking of his career 80. 26-year-old Nagal will be seen playing in the doubles event in a Grand Slam for the first time in his career, in which he will face world number-2 pair Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden for the first time. This pair won the Australian Open played this year.
Sebastian Ofner won his first match in singles
Talking about Sumit Nagal’s partner Sebastian Ofner, he has started with a win in his men’s singles match at the French Open 2024. Ofner defeated Terence Atmane in the first round in which the match between the two lasted for five sets. Now in the second round, Ofner will face Argentina’s Sebastian Baez, who is currently ranked number-20.
