New Delhi. FASAI i.e. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has given a big order. FSSAI has given this order to test baby food and spices across the country. All brands of baby food and spices will be tested across the country. Recently, Singapore and Hong Kong said that they found ethylene oxide in Everest’s fish curry masala and pesticides in the samples of MDH masala. Singapore had banned the spices of these companies. At the same time, it was revealed that Nestle’s baby food contains China.
After these two cases came to light, FSSAI decided to get spices and baby food tested. FSSAI has also alerted the Spice Board of India regarding spices. English business newspaper Live Mint quoted an officer as saying that all food commissioners across the country have been asked to collect samples of spices and baby food and test them. These samples are ordered to be taken from the manufacturing units of companies making spices and baby food. After taking the sample, it will be sent to FSSAI lab for testing. The investigation will take about 20 days. Quoting the officer, the newspaper said that if any irregularities were found in the samples, strict action would be taken against these brands.
The Singapore Food Agency had said that it was banning Everest’s fish curry spice after ethylene oxide was found. The Singapore agency has asked all the people here not to use this spice. Ethylene oxide has profound effects on health. At the same time, on April 5, the Center for Food Safety in Hong Kong had banned Everest’s 1 and MDH’s 3 spices Sambhar Masala Powder, Curry Powder Mixed Masala Powder and Madras Curry Powder. At the same time, the claim of sugar in Nestle’s baby food Cerelac was made by Swiss investigative organization Public Eye. The organization had told that Nestle is selling sugar mixed in baby food in India. Every time a child is fed Cerelac, he is getting 3 grams of sugar. FSSAI had also taken samples of Cerelac on this. Nevertheless, now it has been decided to test all baby foods.
