Korba (Representational) Paddy has been fully lifted from 55 paddy procurement centers operating in the district. Like last year, this year also there was no shortage of paddy. A total of 17 lakh two thousand 372 quintals of paddy were purchased in Kharif year. Four thousand 123 more farmers have sold three lakh 49 thousand quintals of additional paddy as compared to last year. The officials heaved a sigh of relief when the paddy was fully lifted.
Paddy off-take from paddy procurement centers has been completed. The six new paddy procurement centers opened by the government this year in the district also provided a lot of convenience to the farmers. With the opening of new procurement centers, the farmers got relief from going far to sell paddy. Due to which a lot of money and time were saved for the farmers. All the necessary arrangements were made by the district administration for electricity, water, toilet, medical insect as well as procurement in all the paddy procurement centers. The farmers of the district were quite satisfied with all these arrangements. Farmers are also expressing their gratitude to the government for being easy to sell paddy at the centres. SK Joshi, the nodal officer of Jal Sahakari Bank, said that last year 29 thousand 950 farmers had sold their paddy on support price. In the Kharif year 2021-22, 34 thousand 73 farmers of the district have sold their paddy in cooperative societies. Last year 13 lakh 52 thousand 710 quintals of paddy were procured. This year the farmers of the district have sold 17 lakh two thousand 372 quintals of paddy at support price. Thus, 25 percent more paddy has been procured this year as compared to last year. Seven thousand 946 more farmers have also been registered this year as compared to last year. Last year 32 thousand 591 farmers had registered to sell paddy. This year 40 thousand 537 farmers have been registered.
Paddy soaked in the procurement centers due to rain
During two months of paddy procurement, this time the rain wreaked havoc. The purchase had to be postponed due to the rains in the month of January. In view of the problem of farmers deprived of paddy sale, the government increased the time of paddy sale. Paddy procurement that ended on January 31 was completed on February 7. This time it was decided to purchase paddy from old gunny bags as compared to last year. In view of the shortage of gunny bags, 2.5 lakh plastic gunny bags were supplied by the government, then only paddy could be purchased.
Milling of six lakh quintals of paddy is still pending
This time there was a spurt in paddy lifting. The lifting was completed by March 20 last year. Milling of six lakh quintals of paddy is still left in the purchased paddy. Due to the existence of four additional godowns in the departmental district, it was convenient to deposit rice. Giving rice for two months together in fair price shops has also affected paddy lifting. The district administration had set a target of purchasing 15 lakh quintals of paddy. This year’s paddy procurement broke the record of procurement made in all the previous years.
