Gaddinshin of Ajmer Sharif supports, Anjuman Committee opposed - Differences among Khadim on Waqf Bill

There has been differences in the Committee of Khadim of Ajmer Dargah in Rajasthan over the Waqf Amendment Bill. The Central Government introduced this bill in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday (April 3). The bill will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha the next day. The bill has been supported by Salman Chishti, patron of Ajmer Dargah and son of the patron of the Dargah and Syed Nasruddin Chishti, President of All India Sufi Sajjad Nasheen Parishad. But Ajmer Sharif Anjuman (President of All India Sufi Sajjadanshin Council), the main organization of Khadim, has strongly objected to this.

The organization has passed a resolution condemning some of its members to support the Waqf Amendment Bill. It also alleges that they have joined hands with BJP and other right -wing organizations who are “working against the interests of Muslims”.

Written article by heir Salman Chishti
The main reason for the differences between Khadims of Ajmer Dargah is an article by Khadim Salman Chishti. The title of this article published in the English newspaper The Hindu on 31 March is “The time has come to improve Waqf”. His article was shared by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on his social media platform X. He wrote – “Only by adopting reforms and ensuring accountability, we can ensure that the Waqf continues to fulfill its original objective of benefiting the Muslim community and contributing to the broader society. Read this intense article by Gaddinshin Haji Syed Salman Chishti of Dargah Ajmer Sharif, Dargah Ajmer Sharif’s president, Dargah.”

Apart from this, Syed Naseeruddin Chishti, spiritual guru of Ajmer Dargah also supported the Waqf Amendment Bill.

The organization of Khadim passed a resolution condemning the bill. Being Khadim, Salman Chishti cannot oppose that proposal. He has misused the names of the servants. – Sarwar Chishti
The organization of Khadim said- ‘Salman is not the head of the Dargah’
After Salman Chishti and Naseeruddin Chishti supported the Waqf Bill, the organization ‘Anjuman Syed Jadgan’, an organization representing Khadims (servants) of Ajmer Dargah, called members supporting the Waqf (Amendment) Bill as ‘non-state actor’, who are working against the interests of Muslims.

Sarwar Chishti, secretary of Anjuman Sangathan, said that Salman Chishti is one of the 5000 Khadims serving at the Dargah. Sarwar said, “The organization of Khadim had passed a resolution condemning the bill. As Khadim, Salman Chishti cannot go against that proposal. He has misused the names of Khadim.”

He said, “He (Salman Chishti) is presenting himself as a ‘dargah chief’ while talking to the media. He is not the head of the Dargah but Khadim. I have no objection to his personally supporting the bill, but he can not take any stand against the proposal passed by us, presenting himself as the dargah chief.”
