Amethi. Smriti Irani, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the high profile Amethi seat of Uttar Pradesh, has once again targeted Congress and Rahul Gandhi. Smriti Irani took a dig at former Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi contesting from Rae Bareli seat this time and said, ‘Some people change colours, but Gandhi family changes families.’ The BJP MP was referring to Rahul Gandhi’s recent statement, where he had called the people of Rae Bareli his family.
In a special conversation with AnyTV India’s Senior Editor Aman Chopra, current Amethi MP Smriti Irani said, ‘The work we did in Amethi in five years was not done in the 50 years of Congress. Rahul could not do that work and shied away from here. Along with this, he once again claimed victory from Amethi and said that if there was a chance for the Gandhi family to win from here, someone would definitely have fought. However, along with this he said, ‘If the commander has surrendered, it does not mean that we should sit quietly. I never take anything for granted. I have held 250 meetings in 12 days, so far around 650 meetings of women have taken place here. We have worked hard here, that is why we are at this position today.
On Rahul Gandhi’s decision to contest from Rae Bareli seat instead of Amethi, Smriti Irani said, ‘She is not even sure about Rae Bareli, whereas PM Modi always has his hand on the pulse of the country. If a political party leaves a seat on the verge of losing and calls it a master stroke, then these people are spreading misconceptions.
Attacking Rahul Gandhi, Smriti Irani alleged, ‘Rahul insulted Mamata Banerjee in her own state. Insulted the alliance partner in Bihar. Made Akhilesh cry tears of blood in MP. What kind of leader is he who cannot contest elections on his own? If he had to run, he would have given this seat to his colleagues.
On the question of Ram Temple, the BJP MP said, ‘Ram Temple is not a political issue, it is a matter of faith. If someone insults your God, it will create anger among the people. Along with this, he took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi and said, ‘If you did not have faith, then why did you perform Havan on the day of nomination?’ Going to the temple is also a political strategy. Why didn’t he go to the temple in Wayanad?
