What are the new rules, it is also necessary for abroad
As per the new rules, it is mandatory to clear the NEET exam to get admission in any medical college in India or abroad. In many countries including Ukraine, Russia, China, only those who pass the NEET exam get admission in MBBS. After this, when the said student comes back to India after completing MBBS, he has to appear in the NEXT exam. Only then does he get the license. The same NEXT exam has to be given by the students of Indian medical colleges as well. Due to this, now there has been a similarity between medical education abroad and in India.
Earlier 16 to 18 percent used to pass
Dr. Manish told that from the year 2020, medical education is going on under the new rules. Earlier, foreigners had to pass the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). According to the Union Health Ministry, between 2012 and 2018, the passing percentage of FMGE in the country has ranged from 16 to 18 percent. This is because then any student could go abroad and take admission in MBBS and while staying there, due to not studying seriously or the college itself, the student could not meet the standards of Indian medicine.
Next will be implemented from next year
A senior Health Ministry official said that from next year the NEXT exam will be implemented in the country, after which it will be mandatory for MBBS students in India or abroad. Mock test is also being conducted this year in 2022. Till now, FMGE exam is being conducted for those coming from abroad, whose passing percentage is 50 percent. It is compulsory for the students of all universities abroad.
Doctor who studied abroad, failed in India
During the FMGE exam held in December 2021, 23,691 students appeared, out of which only 5665 students were able to clear the exam. This figure is around 23.91 percent. It is mandatory to get at least 150 marks out of 300 which means 50% in this exam. But the marks of 17,607 students were less than 50 per cent. While 342 did not appear in the examination and 77 students withdrew their applications. The official said that if the average of passing from 2010 to 2021 is seen, then it is around 20 percent.
