Chirag Paswan from Jamui Lok Sabha constituency (reserved) of Bihar has kept the ‘chirag’ of NDA lit in the last two elections, but in this Lok Sabha election, there is a tough contest between LJP (Ram Vilas) and RJD included in the grand alliance of opposition parties. .
Chirag Paswan’s reputation at stake
The importance of Naxal-affected Jamui seat has been like that of the general Lok Sabha seats of Bihar, but in this election, the reputation of LJP founder Ram Vilas Paswan’s son and outgoing MP Chirag Paswan is at stake. LJP (RA) chief Chirag has fielded his brother-in-law Arun Bharti in this election. His main contest is believed to be against RJD candidate Archana Ravidas from the Grand Alliance.
‘Come to Jamui in my youth and till old age…’
In a meeting with NDA workers held at a private wedding hall in Jamui, Chirag Paswan addressed the people present while making Arun Bharti the Lok Sabha candidate. In his address, Chirag Paswan had said that he will not leave Jamui, that is why he has made his brother-in-law the NDA candidate from here. In the meeting with NDA workers, Chirag Paswan had reiterated that ‘I came to Jamui in my youth and will maintain social and political relations from here till my old age.’
How did the political equations change this time?
Let us tell you that after the last elections, LJP was divided into two groups. Out of this, LJP (Ram Vilas) is being led by Chirag. Chirag, who came into politics from Bollywood, reached the Lok Sabha for the first time in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections by defeating RJD’s Sudhanshu Shekhar. After this, in 2019, Chirag defeated RLSP candidate Bhudev Chaudhary. In the Lok Sabha elections 2009, NDA candidate Bhudev Chaudhary defeated RJD candidate Shyam Rajak by 29,747 votes. In this way, NDA has been in control of this seat for three elections. But this time the political equations have changed in Bihar in the elections.
While Upendra Kushwaha’s party RLSP was in the grand alliance in the last elections, now Kushwaha’s party Rashtriya Lok Morcha is with NDA. The importance of Jamui region can be gauged from the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started his election campaign in Bihar from here. The total number of voters in this Lok Sabha constituency, which has six assembly constituencies like Tarapur, Sheikhpura, Sikandra, Jamui, Jhajha and Chakai, is around 17 lakh. Like other Lok Sabha constituencies of Bihar, the election results in this seat too have been affected by caste equation. However, LJP ignores this tradition. LJP candidate Arun Bharti says, I am getting support from all castes. We are going among the voters regarding the work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last 10 years and people are also supporting them.
Voting is to be held on April 19
This parliamentary constituency, where more than 80 percent of the people live is based on agriculture, may be reserved for the Scheduled Castes, but all the candidates are eyeing to attract the upper caste voters. Jamui parliamentary constituency, surrounded by forests, mountains and rivers, faces many regional problems. This area has been Naxal affected for many years. The main reason behind lagging behind in the race of development is considered to be the penetration of Naxalites in this area for a long time. However, Naxalite activities have decreased in the last few years. Voting is to be held in this area under the first phase on April 19. (IANS)
