Toyota Hilux: Japanese automaker Toyota is going to enter another new segment in the Indian market. Toyota, which has been making a splash in the Indian market thanks to its Fortuner and Innova Cristo, is now preparing to launch its new vehicle Toyota Hilux in the offroading pick-up truck segment. According to media reports, unofficial booking of this new vehicle has also been started at select dealerships in the country.
According to the information, the company will present the new Toyota Hilux for sale in the market next month. An amount ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh is being charged for its booking. However, the company has not yet announced its official booking. It is a lifestyle pick-up truck model that will primarily compete with the Isuzu D-Max in the Indian market.
The vehicle has been extremely popular in the United States and Southeast Asian countries since its initial launch in the year 1968. The Toyota Hilux is based on the company’s exclusive IMV2 architecture that is based on the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Toyota Fortuner, though it will be larger in size than both the models. With a wheelbase of 3,000 mm and a length of 5,300 mm, the Hilux will give a tough competition to Isuzu in the Indian market. In the global market, it is available with two-door and four-door options, although some changes can be made for the Indian market.
The company has given two different engine options in it, one variant has a 2.8-liter capacity engine that generates 201bhp power and 500Nm torque. On the other hand, Toyota Innova Crysta’s engine has been given in the second variant, which generates 148bhp power and 360Nm torque. Its bigger engine comes with four wheel drive while the smaller engine variant comes with two wheel drive system.
It is being told that the Hilux will be sold in India in a double-cab body style. The face of the pick-up truck is very similar to the basic profile of the Fortuner. The Hilux gets a large hexagonal grille, attractive swept-back LED headlamps and a rough and tough bumper. However, its rear end resembles that of most traditional pickup trucks.
What will be the price:
Although it is difficult to say anything about the price of the new Toyota Hilux before the launch, but experts believe that the company can launch it between Rs 28 lakh to 30 lakh. At present, the Isuzu D-Max is the only lifestyle pick-up truck available in the Indian market, so there is a dearth of rivals too. The price of D-Max ranges from Rs 18.05 lakh to Rs 25.60 lakh.
