A surprising case has come to light from Bengaluru, Karnataka. Here, eating ‘Smoky Paan’ proved costly for a 12 year old girl and her life was in danger. The girl was operated upon after she suffered a hole in her stomach from eating ‘smokey paan’. The girl was operated at Narayana Multispeciality Hospital here. According to the hospital, the girl had consumed ‘smoke paan’ at a wedding ceremony in Bengaluru. The hospital did not disclose the identity of the patient.
The girl was kept in ICU for 2 days
The hospital said in a statement that a hole was discovered in the girl’s stomach, which required emergency surgery to prevent further complications. The hospital said that in view of the serious condition of the patient, surgery was immediately performed using modern technology. Dr. Vijay H.S., the head of the team of doctors who operated the girl. Said that the surgery was performed through “intra-op OGDoscopy” procedure. The hospital said that after the surgery, the girl was kept in ICU for two days and after 6 days she was allowed to go home.
How did such a situation arise?
Dr. Vijay H.S. Said, “The girl had consumed liquid nitrogen paan at the wedding ceremony. Liquid nitrogen can cause serious harm in two ways. Firstly, it can cause the problem of cold burn, this is because the temperature of liquid nitrogen is between -190 to -200 degrees. In such a situation, if you touch it, you will feel a strong burning sensation, and the tissues can get damaged due to cold burning. Apart from this, if you take a total of 1 gram of liquid nitrogen, you will have to expel about 1500 ml of gas from your stomach at one go. At the same time, most of the time its pressure is so high that the body is unable to control it due to which the person may have to suffer serious consequences. In such a situation, it becomes very important to avoid direct consumption of liquid nitrogen.
Let us tell you that this is not the first such case. Even before this, news of a boy falling ill after eating ‘smoked biscuits’ during an exhibition in Davanagere, Karnataka has come to light. In such a situation, doctors advise not to use liquid nitrogen in food items.
