New Delhi. The results of the Lok Sabha elections are to be announced on Tuesday, June 4. Before this, the Congress party seems to be in trouble. The Election Commission has directed the party’s senior leader Jairam Ramesh to give clarification on a claim by 7 pm. However, Ramesh had asked for 7 days’ time to respond to this. The Election Commission has rejected his request and given him time till 7 pm today. The Election Commission said that if Jairam does not respond by this evening, appropriate action will be taken against him.
Jairam Ramesh had claimed that Home Minister Shah had called 150 district magistrates across the country after the Lok Sabha elections were over. He wrote, ‘So far they (BJP) have spoken to 150 people. This is a clear and shameless threat, which shows how desperate the BJP is. This should be very clear – the will of the people will prove supreme, and on June 4, Modi, Shah and BJP will be out of power, and the ‘India’ alliance will emerge victorious. Officials should not come under any pressure and they should follow the Constitution.’
The Election Commission has directed the Congress leader to file his reply by 7 pm on Monday. Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar reacted sharply to Ramesh’s allegation and said that ‘spreading rumors and suspecting everyone is not right.’ In a briefing before the counting, the Chief Election Commissioner said, ‘Can anyone influence all of them (District Magistrate / Returning Officer)? Tell us who did this. We will punish the person who did this… It is not right that you spread rumors and suspect everyone.’
