New Delhi. Devika Rotwan, the youngest eyewitness to testify against terrorist Ajmal Kasab in the Mumbai terror attack case of 26 November 2008, has refuted Congress leader Vijay Vadattiwar’s statement on the martyrdom of Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare. Without taking names, he said on Monday that no one should ‘rub salt into wounds’ in this manner.
Vadattiwar, leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, had claimed that during the terror attack on 26 November 2008, Karkare was not killed by Kasab’s bullet but by a policeman who belonged to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Was connected. The Congress leader had made this comment while targeting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha constituency, Ujjwal Nikam. Nikam was the special public prosecutor in the terrorist attack case.
Devika told PTI, “If Kasab did not fire the bullet on November 26, then who did? No one will ever forget that terrorist attack. You are rubbing salt on our wound. If you want to do politics then do it on other subjects but not on this.”
Devika, along with her father Natwarlal and brother Akash, was waiting for a train at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminal (CSMT) on 26 November 2008 when Kasab and one of his associates opened fire indiscriminately. Devika was shot in her right leg, due to which she had to walk with the help of crutches for a long time. Not only this, Devika became the youngest eyewitness to testify in the court during Kasab’s trial and ultimately the terrorist was given death sentence. He said, “If he (Vadattiwar) wants to support Pakistan then what is he doing in India? ,
Devika said the allegations against Nikam were false as the lawyer had ‘done a lot for the country and helped get Kasab hanged’. Taking aim at Vadattiwar, Devika said that he is giving such statements at the time of voting. He stressed that the Congress leader has no right to live in this country. Taking aim at the Congress leader, Devika said, “Nikam neither lied nor betrayed the country. If you want to read Kasab’s ballads then go to Pakistan.”
