‘We want to see Africa progress’

Our approach to Africa today is to trade more with Africa, invest in Africa, work with Africa, build capacity in Africa, so that Africa can rise in the same way that countries like India are rising in Asia. ‘
Referring to the Chinese presence in Africa, he said, “We are not here as an exploitative economy.” We are not here the way many other countries are here for very narrow economic objectives. For us, it is a broad and deep partnership. China established its first overseas naval base in Djibouti in Africa in 2015 as part of Beijing’s plan to project its military power beyond the Asia-Pacific.
Chinese companies are ‘looting’ Africa
Chinese companies are also reportedly engaged in exploiting Africa’s valuable mineral resources. Jaishankar said, ‘Today the world sees India as a contributor. The world looks to India, Indian companies, Indian technologies, Indian capabilities to help build a better life for them.
