Gold worth crores found with a woman at Trichy airport
Today a woman has been arrested at Trichy Airport in Tamil Nadu. The woman has been arrested by the airport’s Air Intelligence Unit (AIU). The officials have seized 2,291 grams of gold from the woman, which is estimated to be worth crores of rupees. Let us tell you that the gold recovered from the female passenger is of 24 carat and 22 carat purity. The woman is accused of trying to smuggle gold without informing the customs.
Gold worth Rs 1.53 crore
According to Customs officials, the AIU team arrested a female passenger at Trichy airport on Tuesday. 2,291 grams of gold worth about Rs 1.53 crore was seized from the woman. A Trichy Customs spokesperson said, “On August 13, AIU officials at the airport seized 2,291 grams of gold items of 24-carat and 22-carat purity, worth about Rs 1.53 crore, from a female passenger who was trying to smuggle gold without informing the customs so that she could avoid customs fees.”
The woman came on August 12
“Verification of her passport revealed that she was not eligible to import gold. The passenger has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway,” officials said, adding that the passenger arrived from Kuala Lumpur late on August 12.
Gold was also seized last month
Last month also, a passenger coming from Singapore was caught with gold worth more than Rs 1 crore at Tiruchirappalli airport. At that time, officials had said, “Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit at Tiruchirappalli International Airport intercepted a male passenger trying to cross the green channel and recovered gold in the form of paste hidden under the knee caps worn on his thighs.”
