Success Story: Most of the youth study engineering or medicine after passing class 12th. The first dream of any youth who thinks of studying engineering is to get admission in IIT college. For admission in IIT, youth have to pass JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams. Without passing this, it is impossible to get admission in IIT. Despite this, there are many candidates who do not get admission in IIT even after passing JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams. Such is the story of Mohammad Sahil Akhtar, who left IIT and chose Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
I left IIT and chose MIT
Mohammad Sahil Akhtar had secured 99th rank in the JEE Advanced 2023 exam. But then he decided to join Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in search of better opportunities. The reason behind Mohammad Sahil Akhtar choosing MIT over IIT is more research opportunities and flexible curriculum in MIT. He says that generally the most sought after branch in IIT is Computer Science Engineering (CSE). My parents told me to consider choosing IIT Bombay.
He also participated in Olympiad
Mohammad Sahil Akhtar decided that there were other options besides IIT when he participated in the IOAA Olympiad in Georgia. He had no reliance on any entrance exam or rank for admission. I appeared for the Standard Admission Test (SAT). But more than the SAT score, admission to MIT was based on the institute’s admission committee’s evaluation of my application. This included my overall academic record, academic achievement as well as extracurricular activities, essays and letters of recommendation from my school teachers.
Studied from DPS
Mohammad Sahil Akhtar hails from Kolkata and completed his schooling from Delhi Public School (DPS) Ruby Park. He now also has a YouTube channel where he shares his daily vlogs from MIT. Mohammad Sahil Akhtar wants to explore his interest in linguistics and philosophy at MIT.
