new Delhi. The Gujarat government has asked the central government to stop the Narmada-Par-Tapi river linking project. Congress has linked this project with the elections in Gujarat, saying that this project is against the interests of tribals and has demanded its complete cancellation instead of postponement. The Congress has promised to continue the agitation for its demands against the project. In Delhi, Congress spokesperson Shakti Singh Gohil held a joint press conference with some Congress leaders of the state on Wednesday and said that there was a mass movement against the project because of the mistakes committed by the BJP. Narmada water should reach 18 lakh hectares. But today it has neither reached Kutch nor has it reached North.
The Tapi river project came across the Narmada, they announced that the forest is going to suffer a lot, the tribal brothers have not been able to get the fixed amount. In the Congress government, the law of right of tribals on forest property was made.
Congress has demanded that, this project should not be postponed, but it should be canceled by writing on the white paper. Congress MLA Anant Patel said that the agitation will continue till the Center issues directions to cancel the project.
In fact, Gujarat state BJP chief CR Patil had said on Tuesday that the central government has decided not to go ahead with the Tapi Narmada river connectivity project after strong opposition from the tribals.
