New Delhi. Before the assembly elections in Gujarat, the Congress is seen in action mode. The party took a decision on Friday regarding the post of state president lying vacant for a long time. Under this, former MP Jagdish Thakor has been given the command of Gujarat Congress President. Jagdish Thakro has been given a big responsibility by the Congress high command, just a year before the assembly elections to be held next year. With the strengthening of the party’s support base, Thakor has a big responsibility of dividing the disintegration in the party.
In fact, the post of Gujarat Congress President was lying vacant for 9 months after Amit Chavda’s resignation. Congress wanted to appoint such a person to this post, who can take everyone along with strengthening the hold of the party in the coming elections.

In March this year, Amit Chavda had resigned from the post of Congress President after the Congress suffered a crushing defeat in the civic polls. Since then the party was looking for a new president in the state. This search has been completed after nine months.
In fact, due to non-appointment to the post of President, Congress was constantly on target of its opponents as well as its own. In fact, it was being said that on one hand the entire government including the BJP CM has changed its preparations for the elections, but the Congress is not able to appoint a president.
Hardik Patel was also ahead in the race
Patidar community leader Hardik Patel was also considered ahead in the race for Congress state president, but the Congress high command has bet on Jagdish Thakor. Thakor hails from North Gujarat. In such a situation, the party is eyeing this region’s vote bank through Thackeray.
Jagdish Thakor, 64, is a native of Kankrej in Banaskantha. Although at present he lives in Ahmedabad. He won the election from Patan seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. During this, Thakor had won by a record over 2.8 lakh votes.
Not only this, Thakor has also been MLA from Dahegam seat twice. Jagdish had resigned from all posts of Gujarat Congress in 2016. He had said that he would continue to be a worker of the party.
