Gwalior Traffic News: Gwalior, Naidunia Representative. After being freed from the restrictions of corona infection, the people of the city celebrated Mahashivratri with full enthusiasm for the first time. Devotees started coming to the temples from 12 o’clock in the night to have darshan of the Lord. A large number of people reached Achaleshwar, Gupteshwar and Bhuteshwar with two wheelers and four wheelers for darshan. Due to which the roads of the city were blocked. Due to which the drivers had to be stuck in the jam for hours. People had to resort to alternate routes to get out of the jam.
Ambulances also got stuck in the jam on Hospital and Theme Road. Being stuck in the jam, people were unable to give way for the ambulance to exit. The district administration and police had made arrangements to keep the roads around the major pagodas of the city free from jams and to control the crowd by diverting the traffic as well as banning the entry of vehicles. Which failed due to overcrowding on the streets.
Prasad’s stalls spoiled the system: Devotees distributed prasad by setting up stalls at different places in major markets. Stalls ranging from 100 to 200 feet were set up on city streets. Citizens thronged these stalls to take prasad. Due to which the markets were jammed.
Traffic jam on these routes: Traffic police kept watching: The situation was worst at Inderganj crossing, because from here devotees were going to Achaleshwar for darshan. Along with this, there was a jam due to the moving traffic. Along with this, handcarts of thandai and prasad were set up on the roads. Wherever the devotees saw the place on this route, they went to park their vehicle there. Although the traffic police had kept Roshni Ghar road open for vehicles to move, there was a restriction on the entry of loading and passenger vehicles from here. There was traffic jam throughout the day on Theme Road and Hospital Road. Here the ambulance was also stuck in the jam. Almost all major roads including Dal Bazar, Naya Bazar, Ram Mandir, Phalka Bazar, Nayesak, Hanuman Chauraha, Bahodapur, Ghasmandi remained jammed throughout the day. Traffic police officials said that due to more citizens coming out on the roads on Mahashivratri, there was jam at some places. On receiving the information, traffic police personnel were sent and the jam was opened.
Expert View:
The roads of the city are already narrow according to the current population and number of vehicles. It is difficult for four wheelers to pass here on a daily basis. To deal with the jam, the police and administration should not have allowed the distribution of prasad in major markets and places marked for jam.
