Halling bay boat accident: boat overturned during storm, 28 killed, many still missing

A heart-wrenching incident occurred on Saturday at Halling Bay, the famous tourist destination of Vietnam, when a tourist boat overturned due to heavy rains and strong storms. So far 28 people have been confirmed in this painful accident, while many others are still missing. A total of 53 people were aboard the boat, including 48 tourists and 5 crew members.

The accident occurred around 1:30 pm on Saturday afternoon when the tourist boat was walking in Wonder Sea Ha Long Bay. Suddenly the weather deteriorated and strong winds started blowing with torrential rains, causing the boat to become unbalanced. According to local officials, the accident caused the effect of the storm Wipha, which destroyed the weather throughout the region.

The local administration started rescue work as soon as the incident was reported. Vietnam’s maritime security agencies, police and rescue teams immediately started the campaign. So far 12 people have been safely rescued, while 28 bodies have been recovered. More than 27 rescue boats, divers and investigative parties are engaged in search of other people.

The most poignant scene in the accident came to light when a 14 -year -old boy was safely taken out of the overturned cabin after about 4 hours. It is being told that he was trapped in the cabin, but he could escape due to some wind and place there.

Ha Land Bay is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and it attracts tourists around the world due to natural beauty. Millions of tourists visit here every year. But this incident has raised serious questions on the security and emergency arrangements of the tourism sector. Eyewitnesses reported that the weather was already warned, but despite this the boat was taken to the sea.

The Vietnam government has ordered a high -level inquiry in view of the seriousness of the accident. The Prime Minister has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and directed to intensify the search for the missing people. At the same time, the Meteorological Department has warned of bad weather again in the next few days.
