IPL 2024 Purple Cap: More than half of the IPL 2024 season has passed. All the teams have played 7 to 8 matches and now the race for the playoffs is getting even stronger. Meanwhile, if we talk about the bowlers who took the most wickets this year, Mumbai Indians’ Jasprit Bumrah is at number one, but Harshal Patel, who has performed well in the last two matches, is determined to challenge Bumrah. He was bought by Punjab Kings at an expensive price.
Bumrah and Harshal had equal number of wickets
Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal have now reached parity in this season of the Indian Premier League. Both have taken 13 wickets in their name. But even after this, Bumrah is still at number one, because his economy is much better. Harshal Patel, who was nowhere to be seen in this race, has taken 6 wickets in his name in the last two matches and has directly moved to the second position, due to which Yuzvendra Chahal of Rajasthan Royals has moved to the third position. Meanwhile, if we look closely, Jasprit Bumrah has taken 13 wickets in 7 matches and Yuzvendra Chahal has taken 12 wickets in 7 matches, but Harshal Patel’s 13 wickets have come after 8 matches.
These are the top 5 wicket taking bowlers
After Bumrah, Harshal and Chahal, Gerald Coetzee of Mumbai Indians is at fourth position with 12 wickets in 7 matches. Whereas Sam Curran has now reached number 5 with 11 wickets in 8 matches. Right now the teams have to play 5 to 6 more matches in the league stage itself, so this table can change further. The bowlers of the four teams that will go to the playoffs will get a few more matches, which will give them a chance to increase their wicket count. It remains to be seen which bowler finally captures the Purple Cap.
Punjab Kings spent entire Rs 11.75 crore for Harshal Patel
Meanwhile, when the auction was being held for IPL 2024, Punjab Kings had made a big bid on Harshal Patel. A total of Rs 11.75 crore was spent on them. Harshal had come into the field at a base price of Rs 2 crore. But when their bidding started, there was a tremendous battle between the titans of Punjab and Gujarat. Neither of them were ready to release him, but when the bid crossed Rs 11 crore, Gujarat backed out and he went to Punjab Kings. Harshal Patel had earlier managed to win the Purple Cap by taking 32 wickets in the year 2021, when he was playing for RCB.
