Mr. Hariprasad told The Hindu that supervisors shortlisted six names for each district after consultation and handed them over to the party’s general secretary (organization). “The General Secretary (organization) will now hold a meeting with these observers before finalizing the name,” he said. According to tradition, the district heads were appointed in consultation with the PCC President and the leader of the Congress Legislature Party, but this time the party has appointed supervisors to make the process transparent.
Although there are 22 districts in the state, Mr. Hariprasad said that the number of heads may be more than 30, as some districts will have different posts of urban and rural presidents. Ambala district will have three presidents, one of which will be for cantonment, urban and rural areas.
