The bail plea of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who is jailed in the land scam, was heard in the ED court on Tuesday. During the hearing, the Enforcement Directorate i.e. ED has once again sought time from the court to present its stand and respond to the bail petition. As soon as the hearing on Soren’s petition started in the PMLA special court, the ED asked for two weeks’ time to reply.
When will the case be heard next?
Senior Supreme Court advocate Kapil Sibal opposed this on behalf of Hemant Soren. The court has given one week’s time to ED and asked it to file its reply by April 30. The next hearing of the case will be on May 1. On January 31, ED had arrested Hemant Soren and sent him to jail in a case related to illegal occupation of 8.66 acres of land in Badagai area of Ranchi and money laundering.
Bail petition filed for the first time
Apart from Hemant Soren, ED has also filed a charge sheet in the court in the case on March 30 against the original owner of the land, Rajkumar Pahan, Hemant Soren’s close aide Vinod Kumar, Revenue Sub-Inspector Bhanu Pratap Prasad and Hilarius Kachhap. It has been told that Hemant Soren not only acquired the land illegally but also tried to destroy the evidence when the investigation started. Hemant Soren has filed a bail petition for the first time two and a half months after his arrest, which was heard earlier on April 16. (IANS)
