Hearing on Arvind Kejriwal's bail plea postponed in Supreme Court: Arvind Kejriwal will remain in jail for now, Supreme Court deferred hearing on bail plea

New Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has not got any relief from the Supreme Court yet. The apex court has postponed the hearing on the bail petition filed against the CBI’s arrest in the money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor policy scam till September 5. The Supreme Court has given an additional week to the CBI to file a reply on the petition. Kejriwal has approached the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court’s order rejecting his bail petition.

Earlier, on August 14, Kejriwal’s bail plea was heard in the Supreme Court. Then the apex court had issued a notice to the CBI and ordered it to file a reply by August 23. Arvind Kejriwal was first arrested by the ED on March 21 in the money laundering case. Later, the CBI also arrested him from ED custody. Kejriwal has already got bail from the Supreme Court in the ED arrest case, but due to the CBI case, he is not able to come out of jail.

In the last hearing in the Supreme Court, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, said that he had sought relief citing the bail granted in the ED arrest case. Singhvi, citing the old Supreme Court order, cited Kejriwal’s health reasons and sought interim bail. The Supreme Court bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan rejected his demand and gave the date of August 23 for the next hearing of the case. Now today, the bench of the apex court has given an additional week to the CBI to file its reply.
