A bad news has come out for Indian cricket. Former Indian cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad has passed away. Gaekwad was suffering from cancer for a long time. He was suffering from blood cancer for which he was undergoing treatment in London. BCCI had ordered to give financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to Gaekwad’s family for treatment.

PM Modi and Jai Shah expressed condolences

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that Anshuman Gaekwad ji will be remembered for his contribution to cricket. He was a talented player and excellent coach. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and fans. Peace. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah tweeted that my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Anshuman Gaekwad. Heartbroken for the entire cricket world. May his soul rest in peace.

Kapil Dev had asked for help

Kapil Dev and some other players had sought help from BCCI for his treatment and financial assistance to the family, regarding which Secretary Jai Shah took a big step and ordered the board to provide financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to Anshuman Gaikwad’s family with immediate effect.

Such was the career of Anshuman Gaekwad

Anshuman Gaekwad has played the role of coach of the Indian team twice. Talking about his career, he made his debut for Team India in Tests in 1974. He played a total of 40 Test matches between 1974 and 1984 in which he scored 1985 runs at an average of 29.63, during which Gaekwad also scored 2 centuries and 10 half-century innings. In 15 ODIs, he scored a total of 269 runs, including one half-century.
