New Delhi. There is no possibility of rain in the country’s capital Delhi and surrounding areas at the moment. The weather has softened a bit since Wednesday night, but the heat is expected to increase again in the coming days. In Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) and Safdarjung and other hospitals, 22 people who fell ill due to suspected heat died in the last 24 hours. Officials gave this information on Thursday.
Delhi has been experiencing severe heat for the past few days. However, light rain on the morning of 20 June brought some relief to the city residents. On the other hand, the number of patients falling ill due to severe heat is increasing in Delhi hospitals. According to the officials of Safdarjung Hospital, 33 patients who fell ill due to heat have been admitted. They said that 13 out of 33 patients have died in the last 24 hours.

Condition of RML hospital
A source from RML hospital said that 22 people suspected of falling ill due to heat were admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours, out of which 5 have died. An official source said that 17 patients have been admitted to the emergency ward of Delhi government’s LNJP hospital, while five patients have died in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the city’s main crematorium – Nigambodh Ghat – has seen a rise in the number of cremations. However, officials could not confirm whether the deaths were heat-related. Suman Gupta, general secretary of the Nigambodh Ghat Sanchalan Samiti, said 142 bodies were brought to Nigambodh Ghat for cremation on Wednesday, which is about 136 per cent more than the daily average. 50-60 bodies are brought to this ghat daily. On Tuesday too, 97 bodies were cremated. Gupta further said, ‘Usually 50-60 bodies are brought here for cremation every day. This number has increased in the last few days. Today (20 June 2024) since morning, 35 bodies have been cremated and this number may increase by the end of the day.’
