Prayagraj. In the month of June, disaster is raining from the sky in Sangam city Prayagraj. Due to heat wave, the number of deaths is also increasing continuously. If we talk about the last 24 hours, a total of 35 bodies have been post-mortemed in Prayagraj, while the post-mortem of 50 bodies is yet to be done. According to sources, the post-mortem of maximum 10 to 15 bodies is done every day in the Modern Post-mortem House located in the SRN Hospital campus of the Medical College, but the number of bodies increased in the last 48 hours is surprising and disturbing. The special thing is that most of the bodies have not been identified yet. The reason for the increase in the number of bodies is believed to be deaths due to heat wave. However, in most post-mortem reports, the cause of death is being told as cardiac arrest.
The condition of the postmortem house has become such that there is no space left to keep the bodies here. The bodies have to be kept in the waiting room. A separate cold room has been made in the postmortem house. The temperature of this cold room has been kept such that the bodies do not spoil here.
According to CMO of Prayagraj, Dr. Ashu Pandey, the number of unclaimed bodies has increased these days. There is a rule to keep them safe for 72 hours. Alternative arrangements are being made for that. However, there has been a slight change in the weather. This has definitely reduced the chances of the bodies getting spoiled. He believes that if the situation becomes more serious, other arrangements will also be made.
The pyres are burning continuously at the cremation grounds
Apart from the post-mortem house, pyres are also burning continuously at the cremation grounds. The number of people performing last rites at the four major cremation grounds of Prayagraj has increased since the last one week. On Tuesday, 40 bodies were cremated at the Phaphamau cremation ground alone, whereas till April only 6 to 7 bodies used to come here for cremation. In the last one month, the scene at the cremation grounds seems to have completely changed. 15 days ago, 20 to 22 bodies were being cremated every day, whereas now due to the sudden increase in the number of bodies, additional wood has to be arranged at the cremation grounds. In Prayagraj, there are queues for the cremation of bodies from morning to late evening at Chhatnag, Daraganj, Phaphamau Rasulabad and Shringverpur cremation grounds.
According to meteorologists, the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures is very less. Due to this, people are falling prey to heat wave even in the late evening. According to them, till the minimum temperature does not decrease, such conditions will continue. Monsoon may arrive in the last week of June, only then there is a possibility of getting relief.
