You must have heard that poem…
The sun is hot, the earth is burning
hot wind blows strongly
Excessive sweating from the body
The hand is a fan for everyone
o clouds o clouds
Clouds drive away the heat
In fact, now the eyes are longing to see a piece of cloud in the distant sky. People of some states of India are waiting for the clouds to appear and the heavy rains to come and rain quickly. One feels pity for those who work outside the home in this scorching heat. Be it welding work, rickshaw pullers or daily wage workers, they are forced to go out of the house even in the heat. Be it summer, rain or winter, one has to go out of the house for employment.
Heat broke records in Rajasthan
This year, we did not even realize the spring season, as soon as the winter season ended, summer started. The scorching heat has started tormenting in the month of May itself. Due to the heat, the entire normal life has been disrupted. There is severe heat in many parts of the country. Talking about desert Rajasthan, this time the heat has broken the record of 25 years in the Pilani district of the state. On 28 May 2024, the maximum temperature of Pilani was recorded at 49 degrees Celsius. Whereas the maximum temperature of Churu was recorded at 50.5 degrees Celsius.
These states are also experiencing intense heat
Along with Rajasthan, the temperature has made a record in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh too. Today the day temperature in Punjab’s Bathinda was 49.3 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature in Hisar was 49.3 degrees and Sirsa recorded a temperature of 50.3 degrees. In Delhi’s Mungeshpur, 49.9, Najafgarh 49.8 and Narela 49.9 degrees Celsius was recorded as the temperature. The temperature recorded in Mungeshpur and Narela is the highest maximum temperature so far in the history of Delhi.
The maximum temperature of 28 May was recorded at 48.5 degrees in Niwari, Madhya Pradesh, 48.4 in Datia, 48.2 in Rewa, 48 degrees in Khajuraho. Whereas the maximum temperature of 49 degrees was recorded in Jhansi, UP, 48.2 degrees in Prayagraj, 47.6 degrees in Varanasi and 47.6 degrees Celsius in Kanpur.
Due to this heat and heatwave, there is no peace either during the day or at night. According to the Meteorological Department, there is no hope of relief from the heat for a few days, but the department has said that there may be some relief due to the activation of Western Disturbance from 29 May.
After all, what is the real reason behind the heatwave?
Talking about the geographical situation, the atmospheric changes in the desert have a direct effect on the North-West. In May, the desert becomes hot due to the heat of the sun and the temperature goes up to 50 degrees Celsius. The atmospheric conditions remain dry, at this time the humidity is gone or remains very low. Drought and the wind direction along with it increase the heat in Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab. Another reason for the heat is the hot wind coming from the West. Due to this, the desert heat flows into the plains of the North-West. Due to this, the temperature of Delhi and its surrounding areas increases rapidly.
The heat has increased due to the westerly wind
This has happened because the monsoon is weakening and due to this El Niño is also weakening. Due to which there is hot, dry weather in Asia and heavy rains in some parts of America. The severe heat in Pakistan is also affecting India. On the other hand, there is neither rain in North India nor are clouds visible anywhere. Right now hot winds are blowing from all sides and these are westerly winds which are hot. If easterly winds blow, they will bring moisture and provide some relief.
