Can mobile services be affected due to heatwave? Yes, heatwave has become the biggest tension for telecom companies these days. Its impact ranges from continuity of mobile services to network expansion. These days, it is extremely hot throughout North India and there is very little chance of getting relief from the heat in the coming days. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of severe heatwave in May and June. This is a bad news for telecom companies Airtel, Jio, BSNL and Vi (Vodafone-Idea).
Network expansion will be affected
According to a report, experts believe that due to increasing summer, the biggest tension for telecom companies is to continue mobile services and network expansion. Due to continuing heatwave and increasing heat, there is a need to install AC to continue the 24*7 service of the mobile tower. Its expenditure can become another additional burden on the revenue of telecom companies. Apart from this, due to excessive heat, the tower installation work will also not be done quickly.
There will be a need to install generators in remote areas of the country where there is a problem of power cuts. Besides, the cost of its fuel will also be borne by the telecom operator. At present, all four telecom companies Airtel, Jio, Vodafone-Idea and BSNL are upgrading their towers. Airtel and Jio are making all their towers compatible for 5G service. Also, additional towers are being installed for better connectivity. At the same time, Vodafone-Idea is also preparing to launch 5G, for which the process of tower upgrade is going on.
Fight to continue mobile connectivity
Government telecom company BSNL is also going to start 4G service in the country in August. For this, the company is going to install 1.9 lakh mobile towers across the country. Not only this, BSNL is making all its towers compatible for 4G as well as 5G, so that 5G service can also be launched in future. Industry experts believe that due to heatwave and increasing heat, the process of tower expansion may slow down. Due to slow network upgrade, users may also face problems related to mobile connectivity.
