Ranchi. Former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren has not been able to get relief from the court. Hemant Soren had applied for bail in Ranchi court. ED again took time from the court to present its views in this matter. As soon as the hearing started in the PMLA court on Tuesday, the ED lawyer asked for 2 weeks time to file the reply on the bail application of Hemant Soren. Hemant Soren’s bail application was also heard on April 16.
Hemant Soren’s lawyer Kapil Sibal opposed the ED lawyer’s demand for two weeks’ time. After hearing both the sides, the court gave 1 week’s time to the ED. Now ED will have to file its reply on Hemant Soren’s bail application by April 30. The next hearing will be held on May 1. ED had arrested Hemant Soren recently. Hemant Soren is accused of illegal occupation of 8.66 acres of land in Bargain area of Ranchi. Apart from this, ED has also accused Hemant Soren of money laundering.
In the land scam case, ED had also filed a charge sheet in the PMLA court on March 30 against Hemant Soren, his close aide Vinod Kumar, Rajkumar Pahan, Revenue Department sub-inspector Bhanu Pratap Prasad and Hilarius Kachhap. In its charge sheet, ED has claimed that Hemant Soren acquired the land illegally and also tried to destroy evidence when the investigation started. Jharkhand’s land scam came to light when it was revealed that an army land was sold through fake documents. In this case, many people including Ranchi Deputy Collector Chhavi Ranjan have already been arrested and sent to jail.
