In this direction, the Sikkim High Court has taken a notable and historic step. The High Court has announced to give paid menstrual leave to its female employees. The High Court Registry has also issued a notification in this regard. In the notification issued by the Sikkim High Court Registry, detailed information has been given about the period leave or menstrual leave policy. In this, rules and regulations have also been fixed for availing the facility of this leave.
According to media reports, the Sikkim High Court Registry has introduced a menstrual leave policy for women employees. According to the notification, the women staff of the High Court can avail 2-3 days of menstrual leave every month. The notification further states that it is necessary to obtain a recommendation from the medical staff attached to the High Court to avail menstrual leave. The notification states, ‘Women employees in the High Court Registry can now avail 2-3 days of menstrual leave in a month, provided they first contact the medical officer attached to the High Court and obtain his recommendation for such leave.’

Leave will not be deducted from the leave account
In a notification issued by the Sikkim High Court, it has been said that money will not be deducted from the leave account of female employees on taking menstrual leave. Also, this leave will not be counted in the employee’s leave account. Sikkim High Court is the first High Court in India to start the menstrual leave policy. Sikkim High Court, India’s smallest High Court, consists of three judges and a registry staff of nine officials including a woman officer.
