The High Court has canceled the lower verdict in the gangster case related to the murder of BJP leader Krishnanand Rai. Earlier, Ghazipur MP MLA Court had sentenced Afzal Ansari to 4 years of imprisonment. After this order, Afzal’s membership of Parliament will remain intact.

MP Afzal Ansari was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment by the MP MLA Court of Ghazipur on 29 April 2023 last year. After the announcement of the sentence, Afzal Ansari had to go to jail and his membership of Parliament was also canceled. After this, Afzal challenged this decision in Allahabad High Court. The High Court had granted bail to Afzal Ansari on 24 July 2023, but refused to immediately stay the sentence. After this, Afzal knocked the door of the Supreme Court and demanded a stay on the sentence, which was accepted by the Supreme Court. After the Supreme Court stayed the sentence, Afzal’s membership of Parliament was restored again. Now Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh of Allahabad High Court has canceled the decision of the MP MLA Court.

The High Court had earlier reserved its order on July 4 after hearing the arguments of both the parties. Let us tell you that if any MP or MLA is sentenced to two years or more in any case, then his membership of MP or MLA is cancelled and not only this, he is also barred from contesting elections for 6 years after completing the sentence. In this way, this decision of the High Court is very relieving for Afzal Ansari.
