new Delhi . Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday informed the Rajya Sabha that a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the incident of “accidental” firing of missiles in Pakistani territory on March 9. “The Defense Ministry has taken the issue seriously and the exact reasons behind it will be known when the high level investigation team submits its report,” Singh said.
Referring to the incident, he said that during routine maintenance and inspection, a missile accidentally fired at around 7 pm. Later it was found that the missile fell in the territory of Pakistan. Singh further said, “We have expressed regret over the incident, we are relieved that no one was hurt in the accident.”
The Defense Minister also said that the government has taken the issue very seriously and a high level inquiry has been ordered.
“I would also like to add that the standard operating procedures for operation, instruction and maintenance will also be reviewed after this incident,” he said.
He said, “We give top priority to the security of our weapon system and if any error is found in this regard, it will be rectified expeditiously. I would also like to assure the House that our missile system is apart of the world. Highly secure and reliable.”
He said the armed forces are well trained and disciplined and are capable of handling these advanced weapon systems.
Earlier, the Defense Ministry had said in a statement that on March 9, 2022, during routine maintenance, a technical fault resulted in the missile accidentally firing. The Government of India has taken this matter seriously and ordered a high level inquiry.
