Amid the hijab controversy in Karnataka, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said unnecessary brawls should not be encouraged and students should follow the school uniform rule. After inaugurating an indoor sports arena at a private school in Bengaluru, Naidu said unnecessary controversies like the one in Karnataka should not be encouraged.
Underlining the need to realize the beauty of the diverse Indian culture, the Vice President said that unity in diversity is the specialty of India. Different language, different dress yet a country of its own. He also said that people should remember that they are Indians first. Irrespective of caste, creed, gender, religion and region, we are all one. We are Indians first. Everyone should remember this. There should be no discrimination.
Naidu also said that people should feel proud of the languages they speak and promote. Emphasizing on extra-curricular activities in schools, he said that the new National Education Policy emphasizes on this aspect. He also urged all the state governments and educational institutions to give priority to sports, extra-curricular activities and to develop spiritual mind in children. The Vice President said that spirituality does not mean religion. Religion is your personal choice but our culture, our heritage, our duty, we all should follow in our life.
