Mumbai. A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday challenging the Bombay High Court’s decision to uphold the ban imposed on students of a private college in Mumbai from wearing hijab, niqab, burqa, stole, cap etc. on campus. The lawyer appearing on behalf of the petitioner has sought an early hearing from the Supreme Court.
This case is of Mumbai’s N.G. Acharya and D.K. Marathe College, where the administration has banned wearing of hijab, niqab, burqa, stole and cap. Nine girls had earlier approached the Bombay High Court against this, but the High Court rejected their petition, which has been challenged in the Supreme Court.
When the petition was mentioned before the Chief Justice of India on Tuesday for urgent listing, CJI DY Chandrachud said he has already appointed a bench for the case and it will be listed soon in the coming days.
