Forest fire
A 75-year-old woman was burnt alive in a forest fire in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district. A police officer gave this information on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Nikki Devi, a resident of Bagaitu village in Hamirpur. The forest fire had reached Nikki Devi’s fields, which she was trying to extinguish, but she herself got caught in it and was burnt alive. The body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem. This is the second incident of death due to forest fire in Hamirpur district in 15 days. Earlier on May 29, a woman died of suffocation during a forest fire in Chakmoh area.
In the summer season, dry forests of Uttarakhand, Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir often catch fire. This causes a lot of trouble and also causes huge loss of forest wealth. Trees and animals of the forest also get burnt. Many animals also die.
Fire in Jammu Kashmir and Uttarakhand too
Several incidents of forest fires have also been reported in the forests of Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand. In Uttarakhand, eight forest workers had gone to extinguish forest fires but got caught in the fire and got burnt. Four of these workers died, while the other four are badly burnt and are undergoing treatment.
More than a dozen houses burnt in Uttarkashi
Six people were injured and more than a dozen houses were burnt to ashes in a fire in Salra village of Mori block of Uttarkashi district on Monday. An official gave this information. He said that the fire started due to a short circuit in a house, which soon spread to other nearby houses. Uttarkashi District Magistrate Meherban Singh Bisht said that ten residential houses were completely damaged in the fire while four others were partially burnt. He said that six people were slightly injured. He said that the fire was brought under control by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the fire department with the help of local people. Uttarkashi District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal said that the village is eight kilometers away from the main road and the nearest source of water is also about half a kilometer away from there. He said that due to this it took more time for the fire brigade to douse the fire. He said that a medical team, forest department personnel and a team of veterinarians have been sent to the spot.
