CM Himanta Biswa Sarma targeted Congress
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday criticised the Congress for its “silence” over the “attacks” on Hindus in Bangladesh and alleged that the party was more concerned about Gaza. Sharma, the election co-incharge of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jharkhand, is in Ranchi to attend the party’s organisational meeting for the upcoming assembly elections. Expressing concern over the unrest in Bangladesh, Sharma said the situation there is very bad and cannot be described in words. He expressed confidence that the central government will resolve the issue through diplomatic means and the situation will gradually improve.
Himanta Biswa Sarma targeted Congress
“The situation is very bad there (in Bangladesh) right now,” Sharma told reporters at the Birsa Munda airport. Criticising the Congress for allegedly remaining silent on the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh, the Assam chief minister said, “The party leaders protested for the minorities in Gaza, but how many times have they raised their voice for Hindus in Bangladesh? The Congress has shown that it stands with Muslims facing problems across the world, but not with Hindus.”
Said this on the population of Hindus in Bangladesh
On the exodus of people from Bangladesh, Sharma said that the central government has not allowed anyone to cross the border. He said, “This is not the solution. We cannot allow people to cross the border. The only solution is to use all diplomatic means and ensure their safety in Bangladesh.” Sharma also claimed that the Hindu population has declined in the entire eastern region bordering Bangladesh. He said, “The Hindu population in Assam has decreased by 9.23 percent, while in Bangladesh it has decreased by 13.5 percent in the last few years.”
