Kharif Crops The hope of a bumper crop has increased. In fact, the sowing area of Kharif crops in India has increased by 3 percent this year to 904.60 lakh hectares, which was 879.22 lakh hectares in the same period last year. This information has been received from the data integrated by the Ministry of Agriculture. There has been an increase in the sowing of main crops like paddy, pulses, oilseeds, millet, and sugarcane. The reason for this is the better than normal monsoon in the country.
Further growth expected in agriculture sector
Further growth can be seen in the agriculture sector. The reason for this is the allocation of Rs 1.52 lakh crore by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the General Budget 2024-25 to increase production and bring resilience in agriculture and related sectors. The announcements made to increase productivity and resilience in the agriculture sector include self-sufficiency in oilseeds and large-scale clusters for growing vegetables etc.
Government will strengthen storage and marketing
Sitharaman said that the government’s strategy is to achieve self-sufficiency in oilseeds like mustard, groundnut, sesame, soybean, and sunflower. The government will strengthen their production, storage and marketing. The Finance Minister further said that clusters of vegetable production will be created on a large scale in places where consumption is very high. The government will promote farmer-producer organizations, cooperatives and startups for vegetable supply chains, including collection, storage and marketing of products. The government has implemented the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all major crops, so that farmers can get at least 50 percent margin on the cost of their crop.
