Train accident in Czech Republic
Prague: A horrific train accident has taken place in the Czech Republic. At least four passengers have died in a collision between a passenger train and a freight train here. Officials gave information about the accident on Thursday. Czech Republic Home Minister Vit Rakusan said that at least 23 passengers were injured in this accident. He said that the incident took place in the city of Pardubice, about 100 kilometers east of Prague, late on Wednesday night.
Operations on major rail lines closed
Home Minister Vit Rakusan said the passenger train belonged to the private company Regiojet. Transport Minister Martin Kupka said operations on the main rail line between Prague and the eastern part of the country had to be stopped while officials were investigating the incident. Prime Minister Petr Fiala called the accident a major tragedy and expressed condolences to the families of those killed.
There were more than 300 passengers on the train
According to the information, there were more than 300 passengers on the train at the time of the accident. The train was going towards the western Ukrainian city of Chop near the Slovakian border. The local fire department told Czech TV that the freight train was carrying calcium carbide. According to the information given by the railway department about the accident, many passengers have been seriously injured in the accident. The two coaches of the fire in the freight train were empty, due to which there was no leakage and a major accident was averted. (AP)
