Kentaki and Missouri, America. The powerful storm in the two major states of America, Kentki and Missouri, has caused heavy havoc, which has so far confirmed the death of at least 21 people. Of these, 14 people have died in Kentki and 7 in Missouri. Officials say the death toll may increase further as relief and rescue operations are still going on.
Storm of storm: ground situation
Kentaki: The most damage in Laurlal County
On Saturday morning, the Laurlal County, located in the southeastern part of Kentki, was the most affected. Many houses in this area were completely destroyed, trees were uprooted and electric poles fell on the ground. The office of the Governor of Kentki has confirmed that 14 people have died in the state.
According to the Emergency Management Agency (EMA), relief work continues rapidly, but it is still difficult to reach many areas. During the storm, winds flew at a speed of more than 150 kilometers per hour, causing the roofs of many houses to fly and the buildings collapsed.
Missouri: St. Louis most affected
The storm on Friday in Missouri influenced the city of St. Louis. Five people have died here, including three members of the same family. The Missouri administration has informed that about five thousand buildings have been damaged due to the storm.
Debris is spread on the roads, cars are overturned and power supply is stalled in many places. There is a power cut situation in about one lakh houses in St. Louis. The fire department and the local police are going door-to-door taking stock of the damage.
Relief and rescue operations
Disaster management agencies, local police, fireworks and national guards are conducting rescue operations in storm affected areas. Priority is being given to areas where there are signs of trapped people. JCB and drone are being taken to take out the people buried in the debris.
Red Cross and other voluntary organizations have set up relief camps, where food, water and medical facilities are being provided to the affected people.
State governments response
Expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, Kentki Governor Andy Aashiar said, “This is a very difficult time for our state. We are trying our best to help every affected person.”
Mike Parson, Governor of Missouri, tweeted, “We are collecting all possible resources to deal with this disaster. The state’s machinery is fully engaged in relief work.”
Emergency has been declared in both states and federal assistance has been demanded.
Crisis being linked to climate change
Meteorological experts believe that the increase in the frequency of such extreme seasonal events is a sign of climate change. The Meteorological Department has warned that there is a risk of strong winds and rain in other surrounding states – Tenasi, Indiana and Illinois – in the next 24 hours.
Warning and vigilance instruction to the public
The Meteorological Department has advised people to stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed and emergency kit ready.
Schools, colleges and offices have been closed and unnecessary travel has been banned. Alerts are being issued continuously through social media and local news channels.
The most severe storm in decades
According to experts, this storm has been the most destructive in this part of America in the last three decades. Earlier this level of devastation was seen in 2011 during a storm in Joplin, Missouri, killing 158 people.
Further challenges
According to the information so far, it may take 3-5 days to restore electricity and internet services. Crowds at first aid centers have increased, causing lack of drugs and doctors.
Cattle and crops have also suffered heavy losses, which can affect the rural economy.
This horrific storm in America once again showed that technical growth in front of natural disasters is also limited. Although governments and agencies are active in relief and rescue, it is necessary to take long -term strategy and the effects of climate change seriously to deal with such disasters in the future.
