New Delhi. Out of 76.41 crore eligible voters, 50.72 crore people have voted in the first five phases of the Lok Sabha elections. This information has been given in the data shared by the Election Commission on Saturday. The Election Commission’s data showed that in the first phase held on April 19 for 102 seats, out of a total of 16.64 crore voters, 11 crore voters cast their votes and the voting percentage was 66.14.
According to the data, the voting percentage in the second phase for 88 seats on April 26 was 66.71 and out of a total of 15.86 crore eligible voters, 10.58 crore people voted. Accordingly, in the third phase of voting for 94 seats on May 7, out of 17.24 crore eligible voters, 11.32 crore exercised their franchise and the voting percentage was 65.68.
According to the data, in the fourth phase, voting was held for 96 seats on May 13, in which 12.25 crore voters out of a total of 17.71 crore voters cast their votes and the voting percentage was 66.71. Accordingly, in the fifth phase on May 20 for 49 seats, the voting percentage was 62.20 and out of 8.96 crore eligible voters, 5.57 crore exercised their franchise.
The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a petition by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) seeking direction to the Election Commission to upload polling booth-wise voting percentage data on its website. A day after this, the Election Commission released this data.
Electors are those who are part of the electoral roll. Voters are those who actually vote in the elections. The Election Commission said that it has decided to further expand the format of voting data to include the full number of voters in each parliamentary constituency.
