Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday declared two Ukrainian cities – Donetsk and Luhansk – as independent territories after an address to the nation. Soon after, Putin instructed the Defense Ministry to send troops to the two cities and help the separatists fighting to break away from Ukraine. Putin made it clear with the announcement that he was fully prepared to attack Ukraine and for this he would resort to separatists trying to break Ukraine. According to the latest revelations, Putin has also made an agreement with the rebels for this, which was signed on Monday.
What is Putin’s agreement with the rebels?
It is worth noting that in the border cities of Donetsk and Luhansk in Ukraine, the war between the army and the rebels has been going on for the last eight years. Russian-backed separatists have occupied large parts of these two cities and are also running their rule here. Now, according to the agreement Putin made with the rebels on Monday, Russia will now have the freedom to build military bases in Donetsk and Luhansk inside Ukraine.
The United Nations and the whole world currently recognizes Donetsk and Luhansk as part of Ukraine. In this sense, any kind of military activity of Russia in these two areas would be completely illegal. Nevertheless, if Russian troops help the separatists in Donetsk and Luhansk and become part of the war, Ukraine will be free to act against them. However, this can also become an opportunity for the Russian President to start a war.
What are the preparations for the capture of Donetsk and Luhansk?
According to reports, Russia is currently considering making many more agreements with the separatists for these cities. One of these agreements is related to military cooperation and security of the borders of both the cities. That is, if Ukraine could not stop the Russian army from entering Donetsk and Luhansk, then Russia can cut off their borders with Ukraine to separate these two cities from Ukraine and establish separatist rule in them. For this, Russian soldiers themselves can be deployed to guard the border on the side of Ukraine.
